What product is best for fading dark spots on African American skin?

I have so many dark spots %26amp; discolorations on my face, it`s embarrasing. I`m NOT going to resort to wearing make up, so what product can I use to fade the spots?

The traditional product to use is Palmer's Skin Success. But I think results vary. If you have access to Retin-A (a perscription acne cream) give it a try. You can get it from a dermatologist. (But I got my refills with out a prescription when I went to Mexico.)
