Can a liver problem cause skin to darken?

I was told that a family memeber is having some stomach pressure/pain and that his feet has gotten blackish in color and that this discoloration has now gone half way up his calfs. He was told that the doctors have seen something on his liver. He will be having further test. Can a liver problem cause this? Or does this sound more like a cerculation or blood clot problem? This man is of senior age. Has anyone experienced this?

Can a liver problem cause skin to darken?
I am glad that your family member is being tested for his stomach/liver problem. Although liver problems can cause skin discoloration (usually a dirty yellowy orange color) in advanced disease, this usually occurs over the whole body, especially in the whites of the eyes. The discoloration in the lower legs sounds more like a circulation problem to me. WIth advancing age, the valves in the veins in the legs many times will weaken, causing blood to pool in the lower legs. This can lead to the discoloration that you describe. Has the doctor evaluated his legs? Are they swollen as well as discolored? Does he have trouble walking? Are there any open areas, or softened areas, especially on the bony prominences around his toes, feet, and ankles? Is there any abnormal smell? (No, you don't have to sniff his feet...lol..I mean a smell that is very apparent, even at a distance, of something rotten). Is he Diabetic? If the doctor has not evaluated this, he should probably be seen. Hope this helps.
Reply:sounds like a blockage, if its in both legs it could be a blockage in the abdominal part of his aorta, hence the stomach pain. he needs angioplasty, liver can cause brownish discoloration, but not usuall in the legs like that.

does not sound good to me
Reply:I've known people that turned yellow but not black. That sound's more like poor cirulation caused by diabetes.
Reply:Problems with circulation can be caused by liver disease, and can reduce the movement of the blood so much that it causes that discoloration of the lower legs and feet. That darkening of the skin is caused by venous insufficiency - the tissue is dying because it's blood supply has been reduced or cut off.
Reply:ZENMED line is especially cool and multi-purposed due to it's multifunctional products aimed at body acne on places such as the back, chest and neck, and facial acne - which we all know is the most common type of acne and is probably the product we are all searching for.

The Zenmed family of products has been well reviewed in high profile magazines such as Allure and Good Housekeeping, and has an excellent track record for permanently treating skin for bad breakouts.

I tried ZENMED Derma Cleanse System for six months, and now after almost two years I have remained acne free!
