I have decided to start buying all my body care products from the Whole Food Market. I need suggestions.?

Do they have good hair products. And skin products that remove discolorations, and even skin tone?

I have decided to start buying all my body care products from the Whole Food Market. I need suggestions.?
whole foods has really good products especially if you have sensitive skin and want to use products free of chemicals. go into the store and ask questions the clerks in skin care can really help you
Reply:its not worth it just go to the 99cent store
Reply:why whole foods? is it bec of the organic label?

target and walmart has some organic brands too.

its not the brand but the ingredients that matters

Best foundation?

what is the best kind of fundation for my skin if I have normal skin? I have tried minerals but sometimes it makes me look wrinkled and im only 23! and a lot of times when i buy cream fundation it doent match my skin color... Im very pale so it is very dificult to find the right coor without looking "sick-pale"

i have discolorations in my skin because of past acne... If I get a light concealer is too light so i have to get the medium, but medium fundation is too dark for my hole face, otherwise it doesnt match my neck.....

have you tried mousse fundation?????

help!!!! I have a big event tomorrow!!!

Best foundation?
well i woulda recommended minerals, but if it doesnt work idk wut to say.

but as for the color problem its easily fixed. just buy the light and medium colors and mix therm until theyre the perfect color. ive done this loads of time and it really helps.
Reply:I like Mary Kay Tinted Moisturizer with Sunscreen. Mary Kay's Creme-to-Powder is good too. I am also very pale.
Reply:Mary-Kay has some of the best makeup. They have foundation for every sking color and it helps improve your skin a whole lot
Reply:i have used the mousse foundation and it works great! but i know the kind i use blocks pores so you just have to make sure you take it off every day. my skin is discolored too but looks even when i put it on. another suggestion is going to sephora. they test out the product on you beforehand and pick what is best for you! good luck!

Foundations?

maybelline dream matte mousse

maybelline super stay silky foundation

covergirl simply powder foundation

or loreal infallible

which do you think is better

i have normal skin just a little discoloration and lots of freckles also im reallllllly pale and i need it to stay on all day %26amp; please dont recommend mac :]]

thankyouu :]

Foundations?
I think you should try an high end brand, like Clinique or Estee Lauder, or Lancolm. I have been very disappointed with drugstore brands.

You can always ask for a sample at the counters and take it home and try it out first. You can actually get help finding the right shade and what foundation is best for you.
Reply:My favorite foundation is the Covergirl one that's powder, and comes in a little compact mirror. I don't remember the exact name, but I think it was pressed powder. Don't try the Dream Matte Mousse, one of my friends tried it, and it looked sooooooo bad.
Reply:Covergirl and Maybelline are crap. The only drugstore make up I would use is L'oreal, personally I think L'oreal True Match is a lot better than infalliable, but both are better than Maybelline and Covergirl.

I use Dior and Chanel foundation, they work extremely well. i really like Dior's new Diorskin Airflash foundation, but it is pricey.
Reply:stick to mineral based Powder foundations.. they work the best
Reply:I personally like the revlon colorstay. It's the only liquid make up that stays on all day for me. When i put it on in the morning. It's still there when i come home. They've got certain ones for ur skin type. like normal combination and dry. i also really like the isadora liquid make up (exclusivly sold only at walgreens). hope this helped
Reply:I think the Maybelle dream matte mousse works best.

It stays on pretty much through the entire day, unless, you know, you sweat it off or something.

Really, it works (I'm saying it un-infomercial-ish), my face get real blotchy and then i put it on and my face looks real smooth.
Reply:Maybelline dream matte mouse
Reply:anything by covergirl sucks, i used maybelline, its greattt. i use the matte mousse which feels very light... but i dont put too much on.

I need a CREAM that eliminates Blackheads, freakles, and blemishes?

Back in the M.E, my mother used to purchase a cream called EVA cream that was in a small container (pink %26amp; white). Since she was pregnant she started to notice a small "discoloration" on her skin. She thinks they look like freakles, I don 't. But, when using that cream it helped a lot with all of that.

I can't find it NO WHERE online, so I need to buy a new GOOD, AMAZING product that does the following:

- Gets rid of blackheads

- Freakles

- and Blemishes

ALL OF THOSE. I need something that you're positive will work. I don't want to spend my money and ruin my mom's face with some nasty cream I bought online.

PLEASE HELP!

Salic solution will help with the blemishes and blackheads , you will need Voodoo to get rid of the freakles. If you had freckles I would have suggested Sally Hanson's Bleach cream.

Frostbite? permanent damage?

I got stuck outside for over 5 hours in what i guess were subzero tempratures as there was frost over everything, in just a t-shirt and jeans.

Its been 3 days and i still have really bad pins and needles in both my hands and nasty aches and pains in my wrists and forearms and doing minor tasks has become quite difficult and quite unpleasent.

There is no discoloration to the skin but as a guitar player and designer i'm quite worried about it. any help would be great. thanks. i am going to see a doctor about it but being around christmas it can be a job to get one.

Frostbite? permanent damage?
If you truly were frostbitten, there will be permanent damage to nerves and more. There is a milder version I've heard called frostnip that will bother for a while, but which seems to leave no major permanent damage beyond a sensitivity to cold. It can take longer than your three days to recover from the effects of hypothermia, which I think is a much more likely scenario here. I've been there, fell through ice in northern Vermont about a mile from a vehicle.
Reply:Next time don't leave your house in that kind of temperature without a coat and gloves, even if you only go to the mailbox.

You were almost frozen.Try some massage on your hands,

wrists and arms.It can't hurt.It sound like you are having some

blood circulation problems in those areas.
Reply:It won't get a permanent damage. try to dip the affected part in warm water and try some multivitamins and Aleve after meal and keep moving your affected area as much as possible

Do you know what this is?

The first right answer gets the 10 points.

I found a large knot on my new rescue dog's back last night. It's about the size of a quarter and rock hard. Doesn't move. Has no discoloration on the skin but one very small red spot near the center. What is it?

*** I took him to the vet first thing this morning so I found out what it was but didn't have a clue beforehand! Just curious to see the knowledge going around here on YA since my vet said that exact description over the phone told her exactly what it was.

*** Don't just answer it, tell what can cause it and what to do about it.

Do you know what this is?
Sounds like a sebaceous cyst but thats just a guess. If it is, it's kind of like acne in people. It's an issue with that gland in the skin. Most of them that I have seen, we just pop. Gross puss stuff. Not fun. But thats just my guess...
Reply:To really get a good idea, I would need to see a picture. Even then I might need to touch and feel it, or stick a needle in it.

My best guess would be sebaceous cyst, a clogged sebum gland, kind of a giant pimple. If that's what it is, then drain it or remove it surgically.

Reply:Noooooo!! Tell your mom to get a pinch of baking soda and mix it with her usual cleanser (ie: Cetaphyl) and mix into a paste on her hand. Then gently rub it all over her face concentrating on problem areas. This will clear up most blemishes and blackheads, not sure about freckles though. When she's done simply was off with warm water!! natural, cheap and very safe and kind to sensitive little bodies.

St.Ives apricot scrub for blemishes/blackheads.
Reply:The discoloration she is experiencing is sometimes called a pregnancy mask, it really is hyperpigmentation that often occurs around the forehead and mouth area while pregnant.

I really like the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant because it's good to use with all skin types. It comes in powder form and all you have to do is put roughly a 1/2 teaspoon in your hand and just rub it with a little water until it is pastey/creamy and then apply it to your face. What's good is you can kind of adjust the consistency on your own. They have a lot of good exfoliaters out there but you really have to be careful that you get one for your skin type. Bioelements, and Murad, are some other good ones.

Help with a laptop burn?

I had used my laptop on my stomach for quite awhile and it got pretty hot so I stopped doing it but now I have some sort of burn/discoloration on my skin. Thats also part of the reason why I stopped. Its been there for about 2 weeks now and hasnt gone away, is this from the laptop heat and will it go away? Is it permenent? Is it something serious?

I checked on Google, and found the references below. It is apparently a common problem, don't know yet how dangerous it could be, though I've seen a theory that it could affect male fertility.

Cystic Acne, again!?

I have asked questions about this before but I am on meds for my cystic acne. I have been on bactrim and clindamycin gel for two weeks but today I started forming 5 more new cysts. I am so depressed I can't even focus on anything! I hate to look at myself in the mirror all I see are these huge red cysts and along with that scars, and discoloration from future skin issues. I know I know give the medicine time, I hear that all the time but when you look like this you just wish someone would say "Oh this is what you can do" unfortunately i understand there really isn't anything you can do about cystic acne.

But if anyone has any ideas please feel free to let me know!

Thank You!

Cystic Acne, again!?
You probably hear this a lot,

but one thing to prevent acne in general is to drink you're 8-10

glasses of water a day. Keeping you're body hydrated well is important,

not just for internal organs, but you're skin needs it to consistently

clean it self and rid it self of toxins that you're body takes in during the day.

Also try to eat a lot of vegtables and fruit, of course keep it in balance with

other foods, but make sure you have at least 2 fruits a day and a salad.

Almond oil works one slowly deminishing scars, but wait until

the acne is pretty much gone, because the last thing you need is oil

on acne. It just doesn't mix, but after for the scars use almond oil.

I know this because my friend had severe acne, and i helped her get

through that whole "hate to look at myself in the mirror" thing.

Also this seemed to work for her to keep her skin clean and free of acne:

http://www.xanga.com/RiceBunny/567728185...

Of course it does't work on all skins, depending on each person

and how they eat, how they live, how active they are, it depends on

you're life style really, sometimes on genes, but not most of the time.

I know some other things that might help, if you like just e-mail me.

I hope this helps :] and that you're cystic acne slowly demishes,

i personally have no idea how that must feel, but from having a close

friend go through the same thing, i can tell how it affects people.

Possibly talk to you're dermatologist about other treatments also?
Reply:i dont have any ideas sorry all i can say is that i hope the medicine helps you just wait
Reply:Actually, there are all kinds of treatments for cystic acne! Have you talked to your dermatologist about taking Accutane? It has been a life-saver for a lot of people. Or blue light laser treatment? Fraxel laser treatments?

Truly, it does take time, but there are many new treatments. Please discuss them with your doctor. Most doctors want to start with the mildest medications first---with good reason. If a milder medication works, why go with something that might have more serious side effects. But really, discuss this with your doctor. No one should have to suffer the emotional damage of acne any more than they should suffer the physical damage. Good luck
Reply:Maybe spironolactone? I know that spironolactone has some tesosterone blocking activity and does help with acne in women when the acne is caused by increased testosterone levels.

Got burned on my upper lip by waxing. Any advice on how to heal it?

I get my upper lip waxed every 2 weeks. I recently went to a new person to get it done...she did a very good job on my eyebrows but she burned my upper lip! I thought it was weird, because she said she would do my lower lip, too (which I've never had done before and still don't think I needed) and she didn't put oil on afterwards. When she put some other 'cooling agent' on my lip afterwards, it BURNED really badly. Today, 2 days later, I still have discoloration and tight skin (almost like a blister) around my mouth. What should I do? HELP! I've been putting vitamin E oil on it regularly...I don't want it to scar!!!!! :( I would be devasted if it did.

Got burned on my upper lip by waxing. Any advice on how to heal it?
The most important thing you can do is cover up the discoloured area with sun protection factor (minimum SPF 30) every day for the next few months, as you don't want the burned areas to hyper-pigment (become darker).

I burned an area of my upper lip when waxing with Veet strips about four months ago. The area became darker once the burn had healed, and it was visible for about three months. I was devastated, thinking the area had permanently scared, but don't worry, as it will fade completely, but gradually. My burn is no longer noticeable. I used SPF every day, as well as Vitamin E oil and later Bio-Oil to aid recovery when indoors and/or in the evenings. I also used a concealer (which completely covered up this darker area) until the mark faded. It will heal, so don't worry.

Ladies...?

If you ladies have done sugaring, were there any side effects like rashes, ingrown hairs, bad wrinkles, discoloration of the skin or anything of the such? Thanks. :)

Ladies...?
it isnt as easy as it seems, it has to be at the right temperature and you have to put just the right amount onto the cloth, if you havent done it before, its going to be a huge mess (always happens to me) if you keep on trying to wax the same area once or twice your skin might bruise, never had any rashes or anything like that before, it probably depends on the person
Reply:no. If you rub too hard the skin will look red and irritated but it will go away.

Small hard lump on my nose - What is it?

A lump a little smaller than a pea appeared on my nose 5 months ago. Last week it grew to about double its size, now a little bigger than a pea. It is located where my nose and cheek meet about half way up my nose. No discoloration of the skin. It looks like a big pimple but I sure that it isn't because it is so hard. It was painful last week but not anymore.

Breast Reduction?

I am looking for information on breast reduction. I currently have a 34DD. This has caused deep grooves in my shoulders from my bra straps, back and neck aches, discoloration of the skin where my bra hold my chest up. Not to mention the fact that no matter what type of shirt I wear, my breasts make my entire upper body look larger. I'm slightly petite at a size 4, and they dont fit with the rest my body.

I was looking online and found two options:

A) Surgery

B) A hormone Pill

Can someone help me with ideas on cost? risks? procedures? doctors in FL or NY?

Also, any personal experience would help.

I had mine done in Feb 2006 and I do not regret it one bit.

You can get it covered by insurance, so I would look in your company's health care directory and go see at least THREE of them. That site I first posted has a lot of information to ask the PS and what to ask about and look for.

Reply:Before my breast reduction (April 2007) I used the information provided during my consultation with my Plastic Surgeon and also found the following website very helpful:

www.locateadoc.com

In regards to all the necessary information it is best ot get that from your surgeon but I like that on this site I could view hundreds of before and after photos of women, watch 3-D animated slide shows on the various surgery techniques and much more.

I live in Australia and paid AU $11,500 in total.

This included:

Plastic Surgeons fee of $6,500

Anaesthetist fee and anaesthetic of $2000

Assistant Surgeon fee of $500

Theatre cost of $1800

Hospital cost $500 per night,

The extra money was for the additional costs such as medication, etc.

The main risks involved are that of any other surgery, the anaesthetic. It is not a minor surgery, but it is not a big surgery either.

My op took 1 hour and 45 minutes, my surgeon used the Le Jour incision technique which minimises scarring and healing time and reduces pain levels ( I was basically in little to no pain following my surgery).

All of this information will be covered during your consultations with your surgeon. I paid for my initial 1 hour consultation and was then able to see my surgeon as many times as I wanted for no extra cost.

I saw him 3 times prior to my surgery just to ensure that I was fully aware of everything.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

**Make sure you are with a surgeon who provides free follow up appointments with you following your surgery, for example I have seen my Plastic Surgeon at 1 day, 1 week, 1 month and soon 3 month times since my op.

How can i tell if my wound is infected?

Yesterday I tripped while running down a hill and naturally out of reflexes my hands went down to reduce my impact. Well unluckily my left hand started to bleed it is a small wound (maybe 2 cm in diameter). I did not do anything to it to sterilize it and today i am worried that it might be infected i have heard bad things about infections. There is slight discoloration of my skin but that is right on the spot where the wound is. Also there is some yellowish whitish stuff coming out on top of the wound i do not know if this pus.

Please let me know what effects an infected wound can have on someone.

Thanks.

How can i tell if my wound is infected?
You can tell a wound is infected via the following signs and symptoms:

1) wd area is inflammed, reddened and swollen. and tender.

2) there might be slight discharge

3) there is induration or pain

4) you might run a fever if the wound is severe.

5) the small abrasion that you have during your fall will heal eventually. There's little reason for it to become infected. You should try applying Neosporin Oint to the wd itself. And try to keep it clean and dry. Applying a drsg or band-aid would certainly help towards faster healing and without scar.

A serious and deep cut or wound if left untreated would eventually become an abscess. and if you are a diabetic; where wound healing is compromised. You might end up losing that extremity to amputation. So it's impt to prevent it from getting infected.

Moreover, if you cut yourself with a rusty nail or sharp object; you should get some tetanus vaccination ( it's good for 10Yrs)
Reply:you have an infected wound, always keep it clean with detol, apply antiseptic cream. Keep the wound dry and in a few days it will be better.
Reply:It sounds infected.. just bathe it and cover, keep it clean.

And don't fiddle with it.It will get better soon
Reply:Go to the doctor immediately. It sounds like the same thing I got after a dog bite. It's called cellulitis (a type of infection).

I was hospitalized for three days and given antibiotics because I was running a fever because of the bite.
Reply:the yellow stuff is normal, its your white blood cells doing their job in helping form a scab. use an anti-bacterial soap on it and cover it. don't use alcohol, its too harsh for the skin. definately cover it though, this will keep most pathogens out. just wash it maybe twice a day and you should be fine. if the drainage starts smelling foul or the yellow stuff gets thick or turns other colors, then you should worry. good luck!
Reply:If I were you I'd pour or pat some proxide on the wound and see if it bubbles if it bubbles it's infected the more it bubbles the worse it is. If you don't have proxcide then clean the wound and let it close up (so that you can tell this next part)...is there a red mark (is the skin red) right around the outside of the wound? If so that's another sign of infection.
Reply:it sounds infected. your hand could fall off if you leave it too long.
Reply:It's not cellulitis but it does sound like an infection.

An infection can turn into cellulitis if not treated properly. Clean it well, put neosporin on it and keep it covered. Change the bandage frequently.

If you start running a fever go to the doctor immediately.
Reply:doesn't sound too bad.. just keep it clean, wash %26amp; soap it. but if it doesnt get any better, go to the doctor
Reply:It could harm you a lot, check to the doctor and always keep it clean from any dirt....

Stretch marks procedures?

So I know that Cocoa Butter helps ALOT. But I want to know are there any other way I can do to help the process? Such as certain baths I can take, certain soaps, or certain methods such as milk baths? I really dont like the discoloration in my skin near the hips and legs. Any other ways?

Stretch marks procedures?
Hi there!

There are some easy solutions that you can try at home. Try using a skin brush while you are showering will increase circulation which will help the skin to heal and help reduce stretch marks. There are also many creams you can find at your local pharmacy or grocery store that will moisturize your stretch marks, and make them more flexible.

One of the recommended creams that will help to reduce the stretch marks is the Belli Stretchmark Minimizing Cream, which is a multi-enriched treatment specially formulated for stretchmarks.

You can find out abt the details here: http://www.squidoo.com/How-to-remove-str...
Reply:no there isnt really any other way...sorry :(
Reply:try using vitamin E oil and coco butter or shea it will help reduce the overall apperance of the stretch marks

Wondering about Limes?

I will have sliced limes in the fridge in a ziploc bag for over a week and will still use them to put in my Miller Chill.(beer) I don't see any mold on them, just a little discoloration of the skin (the outside of the lime - whatever it's called). Sooo, how long does lime last??

Thanks for your time!!

Wondering about Limes?
I do the same thing! The sliced limes will last fairly long. You can use them as long as there is juice in them to squeeze out. I find that if I am not going to use the whole lime pretty quickly, I will only slice-up half of it now, and the other half later, since the lime will start to dry after is cut.

Hope this helps, and happy drinking, Cheers!

-Stebone
Reply:if it smells okay and there's no mold on the actual lime it's fine.

Limes are always good! :)

Then again a lime doesn't last very long in my house.

I never understood the obsession with putting limes in beer anyway.

How can i heal my baby boy's eczema?

i have a baby boy about 18 months old and he has mild eczema spots all over his body. the doctor prescribed hydrocortizone and it helps but you can still see the discoloration in his skin specially when he tans on his arms and legs. what can i do to stop it or will he just grow out of it?

How can i heal my baby boy's eczema?
This is usually one of those things that all your can do is try to find something that helps and wait for him to outgrow it. This is something that often isn't just cured overnight. Giving him baths that are tepid and not long baths with some soothing aveeno or oatmeal helps. When his skin is still damp from the bath rub in a lot of cream and keep his clothing loose and light. heat makes it worse and so does tight clothing. All cotton clothing helps a lot.

By the way my daughter has excema as a baby and I have taken care of quite a few babies with it. One little guy had it so bad, but finally at the age of 2 he outgrew it. His was so bad he would bleed.
Reply:he may always have it =you gotta keep using the cream when it flares up and keep using oil to keep the skin soft when things are okay =good luck =this is a hard thing to keep under control
Reply:The cream usually does work but little babys also have skin discoloration for the first couple of years. Check the spots every once in a while and see if they lighten up in the next couple of months.Call a pediatrion
Reply:Don't dry him after his bath and put on baby oil, is not going to cure the eczema but it will ease the uncomfortable symptoms....this is pretty common in babies so I think it will get better..good luck.
Reply:My nephew had eczema as a baby and my sister would rub him down with vasaline after his bath. It was messy but it worked. Put loose pj's on too. Good luck.
Reply:My son also has Eczema. He started getting flare ups when he was about a year old. We did the cream too, thats really the only thing to do. Your sons eczema might slow down as he gets older like my son did. Mines 11 now and he dosent get break out hardly at all. Good Luck.
Reply:Eczema is a chronic condition that tends to run in families. It does tend to disappear in some people as they get older and then return later in life. Keeping the skin well moisturized and reducing stress along with several prescription medications can improve things but the underlying tendency to have flare ups remains. You may see a marked improvement as he moves from infancy to puberty . Strangely enough, pool water tends to help some eczema, but sun exposure does not, so use the sun block.
Reply:Discoloration will go away with time. Your baby will most likely grow out of eczema as well (like most other babies). Try not to overuse hydrocortizone: it is steroids and they have side-effects that are worse than eczema.

Will having a nose piercing for one day leave a mark?

About five days ago I went to get my nose pierced. I immediately disliked and regretted it. The next day I went back to the piercer and had him take it out. There was a scab but it has now fallen off. However, there is some dark discoloration of the skin around the piecing site and what looks like a small indentation. Will any of this go away? I did not even have the stud in for 24 hours.

Will having a nose piercing for one day leave a mark?
aha same thing happened to me. no it wont. it will be there til the scab falls off. then a little discoloration but after about a month its gone. no need to worry =]
Reply:Why get one for only one day? just get a clippy one. lol.
Reply:yes it will leave a hole in your nose and that is so stuipid to get a nose piecing for one day then take it out you spend all that money for nothing
Reply:i odnt think it will go away completely but it wont be really noticable after its all healed up. =]
Reply:It looks the way it does because it is still healing. Everyone heals different so it might go away completely or there might be a small scar but I wouldn't worry too much about it. It will probably be hardly noticable.
Reply:You'll have a hole for a little while which will heal and probably leave a small scar. The scar might last anywhere from a few months to years depending on how your body reacts to such things.
Reply:Depending on your skin type it may not even leave a mark . I know i had mine pierced for like3 weeks and didn't like it so i took it out and it had no mark what so ever.. Now if you try piercing it threw the scar tissue you are going to get a scar! I did that to my labret and have a scar under my lip! but just don't let it get like all nasty on you may take a little while to heal all the way up !
Reply:YES A HOLE - IN YOUR NOSE!
Reply:Well... is hard to tell. Is depend on how your flesh react.

Just take for example. When you got a cut how long it take to heal? and after it heal does leave a scar? Is the same logic on your nose piercing.

For me I had my nose pierced twice left and right side, I am someone who is so careless, whenever I remove my nose-ring I will loose it and I took 2 weeks to replace one, by then the pierce "hole" already "seal up" (that is why I had 2 nose pierced) and now all the "holes" is totally "seal up" with no marks or scar.
Reply:Two holes should have been enough, you only have 10 fingers you know.

Is it possible to have a bruise thats not visible?

i have had this MANY times. it feels like i have a bruise but there is no discoloration of the skin.i have also heard of my friends/family members having this. is it really a bruise or is it something else? as far as i know a bruise is when you break veins or something and blood raises up causing the color. so what happens with the "invisible" bruises?

Is it possible to have a bruise thats not visible?
Your skin tone has nothing to do with a bruise that isn't visible. Yes, you can have deep tissue bruising without skin discoloration. The same thing happens with deep tissue bruises, there are capillaries and vessels throughout the body and we can't see them all.
Reply:Yes - I have had bone bruises that continue to hurt long after the skin bruise is gone.
Reply:It happens to me all the time. Very possible. Probobly just to far beneath the skin, or you might just have a skin tone that disguises it.
Reply:I get those too. I think its the same thing, but deeper below the skin. hmmm....good question.
Reply:it just means that the bruise is too deep to see any discoloration like a bruised bone.

Upper thigh pains?

For about a year now, I have been experiencing this weird pain in my upper right thigh, which I can only describe as an electric shock type pain. It happens in the same spot every time, will occur at any time and is painful enough that it will stop me in my tracks. My doctor told me that sometimes if wearing tight pants it will press on a nerve, but it happens anytime, regardless of what clothing I'm wearing or what I'm doing. Is there anything else it could be? There is no discoloration on the skin where I feel it, and the pain is very brief but intense. Thanks for any ideas!

Upper thigh pains?
You may want to check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sciatica. The sciatic nerve when irritated can cause a variety of pain in the buttocks, legs and feet. The sciatic nerve runs through the hip joint and problems with it can be caused by a number of different things including alignment issues with the spine.
Reply:I have no idea what could be causing this but i bet an acupuncturist would know. They have to know all about the nerve endings and such. It's worth going and talking to one.

DUDEEE! what is this?

Mmmm. okay. so. .. apparently one day i just go swimming and the area around my mouth start peeling off, and my lips becomes chapped. Theen i constantly hadd to use chapstick from doing so. i switched to a stronger chapstick and the area around my mouth started turning lighter, discoloration of my skin around my lips. NOW recently, it just turned DARK RED.on the top of my lips.

WHAT IN THE HECK DO I HAVE?=[

p.s.

lip lickin have to do withh it?

DUDEEE! what is this?
Try a search for the term "angular cheilitis" to see if you find pictures and other info to match your problem, as well as tips on treating it. And, yes, if it is angular cheilitis, lip licking can have a lot to do with it.
Reply:maybe your lips are sunburned...ouch! good luck!
Reply:Do you live in the South or the West Coast where it's constantly hot? It could be from the sun so that could have something to do with the chapping. Also, it could be a cold sore that is forming. I'm sure if you use Abreva, it will just go away. Personally, if I were you, I wouldn't worry about it. And, if you are that afraid or worried about it, go to a doctor and they'll tell you. Hope this helps.
Reply:I have no idea, try seeing a doctor or something.
Reply:Yeah, ask a doctor and again yeah, lip licking might have something to do with it.
Reply:honey thats what doctors are for :D

Shaving tips?

So, evertime I shave, I get small bumps. What inexpensive shaving cream works well before shaving? Also, I had eczema really bad on my legs a while ago and I have small red dots and discoloration under the skin. What can I do about that?

Shaving tips?
Always dry exfoliate before you shave. Also use a new razor each time and lather up really well with shaving cream.

Exfoliate again 2 days after you shave, not right after.
Reply:try using the razor quattro for women that is what i use because i have the same problems with hair still being seen after i shave even if it was smooth but it also depends if you are pale skinned it also takes care of the bumps i used to get them all the time before i started using this razor
Reply:Make sure you sit in a nice warm bath/shower (which opens the pores) and then gentley exfoliate the area you're about to shave.

You don't have to use shaving foam to get good results, I use soap usually.

I also believe that the wilkinson quatro razor is a very good razor to use (I use it too).

Once you're done shaving dry yourself and apply baby oil (good moisturising properties) or Moisturising cream.

The small discoluration under the skin from eczema is ingrown hairs, which have stayed under your skin.

Basically when you shave, you cut off the tops of the hair. The skin then grows over the top and the hair grows underneath causing red dots.

Theres not alot you can do about them.

I hope this helps :)

I heard this HYDROQUINONE product is dangerous but im afraid to stop using it??!!?

im afraid if i stop using it , i have no other alternative as im trying to fade away dark spots on my skin and dark discolorations of my skin tone..i am dark skinned...my question is, if i stop using it, what natural remedies could i use to fade away the spots??? the cream has only 2% hydroquinone...

I heard this HYDROQUINONE product is dangerous but im afraid to stop using it??!!?
Hydroquinone is dangerous when its being abused. If you follow recommendations on the label, you really shouldn't have any problems. There's a product line called Obagi which has 4% hydroquinone and is only sold in doctor's offices. It is highly effective in removing spots. You can go on their website to locate a physician in your area. Don't worry, as long as there are spots out there, there will always be a remedy!
Reply:Hydroquinone has been regulated by the FDA for quite some time, in some countries being pulled out of the shelves completely as consumers who weren't given the oppurtunity to be educated on the products were misusing it. The longevity that most folks can use hydroquinone at 2% (which is the maximum over the counter that FDA will allow) is good for one to 3 months. Sometimes, folks will use it for about a month and then switch back to a non hydroquinone product. Personally, for daytime, as I have many, many dark spots from before and have been assessing the matter myself, I really love the Avon Anew Luminosity Cream with an SPF 15 and you can use it around the eye area. For nightime, use something with holistic brighteners. Personally, I enjoy vitamin c products with mulberry, licorice, bearberry, and citrus extracts as it aids in retaining the radiance that you already have. An SPF 15 that is broad spectrum is necessary if you are trying to fade away discolorations, especially if you are using hydroquinone products. I love Aveeno, Avon, Neutrogena, L'oreal, and Oil of Olay products for daily usage because in a time of replenishment, it won't break your budget. It's also important for you to exfoliate, whether it be with granules or with alpha/beta hydroxys, you must cleanse, exfoliate, always protect in the daytime, and always treat at night. With hydroquinone, once you achieve your desired result, it's good to go on a more holistic route to retain your result. Always keep the hydroquinone handy, especially one with an SPF 15. My personal all time favorite for most daily skincare usage is Avon as it was one of the first brands to introduct glycolic acid to the consumer market way back when. And by the by, the only reason hydroquinone is "dangerous" is if you use it consistently for many months and years because the ingredient itself is metabolized through the liver. People misuse the products that contain this ingredient and health effects may occur. However, those of us who use it wisely will not have any problems at all whatsoever. I hope that this help you as I was an educator for a national brand of a doctor skincare line that is sold at all Sephoras. However, I still do enjoy the inexpensive products more as it is easier to replenish on the pocketbook! Good luck and be radiant!
Reply:stop using it, any amounts are bad, daily use makes it accumulate in your fatty tissue and bloodstream which can lead to cancer and illness. I recommend to my clients (and they report great success) Hylunia's Skin Lightening Treatment, it uses all natural ingredients like kojic acid (from mushrooms) morus root, licorice root and other natural ingredients, it works even better and is good for you!! Never take the risk with harmful ingredients.
Reply:You can only use hydroquinone for six weeks straight as it harms your liver. I have used it before and it works well. Use it and then take a break. During your break you can try using some cellex-c serum or obagi 20% serum. check www.obagi.com. Use it and then take a break. To get rid of dark spots you should go to a dermatologist and get a peel or a photo facial.

Has anyone tried the Black Opal Maximum Strength Acne System???

Did it work for you because I have absolutely terrible acne...I posted a question earlier about acne and someone said that clearasil ultra works but I'm a little cautious about using it on my skin because I heard that it causes discoloration to the skin of women of color...If you did use Black Opal or Clearasil and it didnt work for you what did???...Best answer gets the 10 points

Has anyone tried the Black Opal Maximum Strength Acne System???
I used clearasil and it didnt work for me.My sister doesnt have severe acne but she has ALOT of pimples. She bought the Black Opal Fade System and her skin has not only cleared up but it has also faded the scars she had from the pimples. My cousin uses their onspot treatment and it fades her scars too.

So yes it does work for women of color and unlike clearasil it doesnt break you out. I am using Aveeno and it works good.

Hope it works for you as well have a nice day and remember to Smile!!

Remove hair from inner thighs?

I cannot shave my inner thighs because of razor rash. I cannot wax my thighs because it is too messy, and time consuming. And recently, I have begun using Nair. I have used it two times, and I am never going to use it again. Nair has irritated my skin, terribly, leaving behind bumps that, as they heal and disappear, are causing discoloration of the skin!

What can I do?! How can I remove the hair from my inner thighs, without irritating them, or making a gigantic, sticky, waxy mess?

Remove hair from inner thighs?
It sounds like you have very sensitive skin. Try using the shaving creams designed for woman to shave their legs. They work pretty well and do not create any razor burn. Also if I recall Bath and Body Works use to make a foam burst which worked beautifully for shaving. There are plenty of solutions you just have to buy a product with an emollient (lotion based)and not a dissolvant. Nair is just a crock and think about it. Anything that is suppose to dissolve hair is naturally going to irritate your skin.
Reply:try this stuff called Veet it is a bladless razor kit....it is like Nair but doesnt make my skin break out and smell like chemicals.
Reply:If chemical depilatories irritate your skin you may need to either pluck with tweezers or do nothing. If you stop shaving, the hair will become thinner and less noticeable over time.
Reply:you could use an electric razor...(unless thats the kind that gives you a rash)

Why are my legs burning?

My legs get an awful burning sensation in the shin area - burning like hot coals.

The burning is there 24 hours a day, sometimes it eases but never goes completely. Sometimes it gets so intense that I cannot sleep, or touch the skin on my legs below the knee. It feels like sunburn but without the holiday!!, and can be accompanied by a slight discoloration of the skin/light rash.

The doctor has failed to reach a diagnosis and says I must learn to live with it.

I am in my mid sixties, female and physically fit and active.

Can anyone help? any suggestions on what it could be would be appreciated.

Why are my legs burning?
get another doctor. That sounds like cellulitis.
Reply:might be neurology and be a dietetic
Reply:Have you tried to cool the skin with ice in a cloth or something and then apply some cream for allergies or rashes. Do that a couple times a day.
Reply:It might be the weed its because it might be potent and your lungs are getting use to it
Reply:sounds like maybe a heat rash you can try rubbing your legs with ice then putting neosporin or some kind of anti-inflammatory cream on them if that doesn't work get a second opinion from a different doctor
Reply:Try this site look up Burning legs in A-Z

www.wrongdiagnosis.com
Reply:Burning pain is often nerve damage, but people can get burning pain and redness(erythema) from repeatedly exposing themselves to a heat source. I had this on my thighs and it felt like a sunburn 24/7 for almost two years. It was awful. (I would still get a diabetes check and get your your doctor to check you for circulation problems in your legs too)
Reply:If you're experiencing slight discoloration and a mild rash, it's most likely not nerve damage. My guess would be a skin condition. My mother has a form of dermatitis that is almost in that same spot, but that's a pretty easy one to diagnose. I suggest going to a dermatologist first before a neurologist, because the rash/discoloration does indicate that this is an outside-in thing and not an inside-out. Plus, it'd be a lot cheaper.
Reply:The burning is caused by some type of damage to the nerves in your shin, but there are all sorts of things that might be causing the nerve damage. Two possible causes that I can think of are peroneal nerve entrapment, which is similar to carpal tunnel syndrome, but located in your knee, and compartment syndrome, but these are wild guesses. It might be a good idea to visit a neurologist. If the pain is too intense, and there is no obvious cause, the sensory nerve(s) causing the problem can be severed as a last resort. My peroneal nerve was accidentally severed when i was a kid, and the loss of the nerve has not caused any problems other than occasionally getting cut or bruised because i didn't know i was getting poked by something.
Reply:Don't know but get it check out by your doctor to rule out anything serious.

Why hormonal imbalances occur ed?

mostly, with women such as irregular menstruation, discoloration and uneven skin tone. Unrefined skin pore and dull complexion?

Why hormonal imbalances occur ed?
Female hormone imbalance

The ovaries produce many hormones. Chief among them are estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. The ovarian hormones estrogen and progesterone interact to coordinate a woman’s menstrual cycle during her reproductive years. The brain produces the hormones follicle stimulating hormones (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) which trigger hormone production from the ovaries. When any of the hormones coming from the brain or the ovaries are imbalanced, symptoms may occur. Imbalances are most common in puberty and menopause, but imbalances can happen at any age. Several conditions are well known to be associated with hormonal imbalance including: polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, breast disease, and menstrual irregularities.

Is anyone an Obagi Nu Derm User for Acne?

Do you use Obagi and what did it do for you? What did you use it for?

I go back Thursday for my 6 week check up and though the color of my skin is more even I still get acne though it goes away faster. And I still have red dots from acne like a beard. *sigh* I am also on medication. I was seeking help for acne, discoloration of the skin from acne and sun damage even though I am an avid sunblock wearer. I also have pitting but not as extreme as others I have seen. It is the acne that kills me. This has been going on for 8 years as an adult. I plan to get a microderm abrassion after my face has cleared but it isn't quite clear yet and I use it failthfully morning and night regardless of how annoying it can seem at times. Somebody give me a whisper of hope that I am still in process. or am I just kidding myself?

Is anyone an Obagi Nu Derm User for Acne?
one of the hard things about acne is that there's so many products to try. i've probably tried like 20 different products, until i settled on a product called beautiful skin. it's a whole regimen that, in my opinion, works better than proactiv.

thanks!

How to fix/cover really dark under eye circles?
There are many causes of dark circles, from age, heredity, allergies, cold or sinus infection, bone structure and glasses which are not so commonly known.

If you would like to apply home remedies to reduce dark circles, here are some of my suggestions:

Buy a box of regular, old fashioned unflavored gelatin (e.g. Knox) from grocery store. Take a small cup or bowl and put in 1 teaspoon of the gelatin mix. Add one tablespoon of boiling water %26amp; stir for a minute. Test it on your wrist to make sure it is not too hot. Then, using a cotton ball, pat it under your eyes as you would an eye cream or gel. Go lie down and listen to some music, or take a bath %26amp; let it stay on for at least 30 minutes. Then just rinse it off.Gelatin is very high in Vitamin K %26amp; Biotin. It will not remove your dark circles on the first application (but you will notice a difference), but if you do it daily for a week, and then 2-3 times a week for maintenance, you should notice a drastic reduction in dark circles.

I am surrounded by women if you have to know and I have had the please of being force to go to Macy's just to buy make-up.
Reply:Mary Kay has the best concealer ever! It is thick but doesn't cake up. It's waterproof too and will last all day. You can put it under your eyes and then use the facial highlighting stick - start at the inner corner of your eye, then under your eye to outside of eye. Using these products always covers up my dark circles. You can get them at http://www.marykay.com/micheleleahjones

I was prescribed Levora birth control pill, has anyone had any experience with it, good, bad or otherwise?

I'm looking to see if anyone has experienced any serious side effects. I am 23 and a non-smoker but one of the side effects I'm concerned about is blood clots and discoloration of the skin.

I was prescribed Levora birth control pill, has anyone had any experience with it, good, bad or otherwise?
Every women reacts differently to all the various pills out there. The best thing to do is try it out for 3 months and see how you react to it.

I am not on Levora specifically but I was on regular Ortho Tri-Cyclen for 7 years. I never had blood clots. And throughout the years, I got brown/age spots on my cheeks and I know that it was caused by the pills.

One thing that doctors and the prescription information don't tell you about pills is that women experience low sex drive. (Do a quick search in yahoo!answers for birth control pills and low sex drive). For me, my sex drive declined very gradually. 3 months ago, my sex drive went down to zero so I switched to Ortho Tri-cyclen LO. Initially, my sex drive went up but now I feel that it's declining again. I'm still looking for the right birth control for my body!

Any doctor here?treatment for varicose veins..plz???
Hi There

Here are some ideas on how to heal them.

Causes

The primary causes of varicose veins are nutritional deficiencies, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, smoking, regular standing for extended periods at a time, pregnancy, and hormonal changes at pregnancy or menopause.

--------------------------------------...

Natural Cures

Aromatherapy: Add cypress oil to baths. Lavender, juniper, rosemary, and lemon essential oils can be massaged around the affected areas (do not massage the veins directly).

Diet: Eat an organic, whole foods diet that emphasizes fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, as well as plenty of pure, filtered water. The following foods can be especially helpful: fresh organic berries and cherries, organic citrus fruits, buckwheat, millet, garlic, and onions. Also eat plenty of fish and minimize your red meat intake. In addition, avoid unhealthy fats, refined carbohydrates, sugar, salt, alcohol, fried foods, processed and refined foods, and milk and dairy products.

Herbs: Combine equal parts of the tinctures hawthorn, ginkgo, prickly ash, and yarrow and take one teaspoon of this mixture three times a day. Topically, you can also apply a lotion made of ten parts distilled witch hazel and one part tincture of horse chestnut to help ease any discomfort. Cayenne pepper and ginger root are also recommended.

Homeopathy: Useful homeopathic remedies include Calc fluor., Hamamelis, Pulsatilla, Calc carb., and Carbo veg.

Juice Therapy: Excellent juicing remedies include the following combinations: carrot, celery, and parsley; carrot, spinach, and turnip; carrot, beet, and cucumber; carrot, celery, and spinach; and watercress.

Lifestyle: Wear support stockings and exercise regularly. Walking barefoot as much as possible is also excellent.

Nutritional Supplementation: Recommended nutrients include vitamin C with bioflavonoids, vitamin B complex, vitamin, B6, vitamin D3, vitamin E, calcium, folic acid, magnesium, lecithin, essential fatty acids, proteolytic enzymes (taken away from meals), and rutin.

Alternative Professional Care

If your symptoms persist despite the above measures, seek the help of a qualified health professional. The following professional care therapies have all been shown to be useful for treating varicose veins: Acupressure, Acupuncture, Bodywork, Chelation Therapy, Detoxification Therapy, Energy Medicine (Light Beam Generator), Enzyme Therapy, Magnetic Field Therapy, Naturopathic Medicine, Oxygen Therapy, Prolotherapy, Reflexology, and Traditional Chinese Medicine

Best of health to both of you
Reply:http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/varic...
Reply:There are non invasive treatment that can be done in the office without putting you into the operating room. One of them is to inject the vein with hypertonic saline solution. This usually destroys the vein and causes them to go away.

Which one should I get to get rid of blemishes? (Neutrogena vs. Aveda)?
What a nice daughter you are!! Good on you !

Seriously, my opinion of all these types of products whether they are said to contain "Natural or herbal" ingredients is that they are just robbing us blind cos we can heal most of that which we ail from simply by increasing our intake of fresh fruit and vegies in our diet. Get your mum to increase her intake of food rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E and she will be well on the road to clear fresh healthy skin.

Vitamin A - carrotts, pumpkin, potatoes, cantaloupe

Vitamin C - oranges, lemons, capsicum and potatoes

Vitamin E - green leafy vegies, spinach broccoli and kale and nuts and seeds.

Believe it or not, the power of fresh clean living foods will far outweigh any cream potion or lotion that you will fork out likely too much cash for anyways. Increase your intake of fresh filtered water too. Make sure you include things like pumpkin soup and mashed potatoes and steamed green vegies and loads of fruit salad in two meals per day and just look at the difference in one short week.

No matter what potion or lotion you buy, if you are deficient in vitamin A you will never have clear and fresh skin.

As far as vitamin C goes, it's so important to have in your diet cos vitamin C are basically the little soldiers that give up their lives for all the free radicals that assault our bodies on a daily basis ....... be it through poor diet, stress, pollution, smoking, drinking ...................... when you have plenty of vitamin C in your bodies your skin will take on a fresher, healthier looking glow too. Try drinking a tea called Rose Hips Tea. Rose Hips tea is actually made from the hips of the flower the rose and is the richest know source of vitamin c and tastes totally delicious to boot.

With vitamin E, found in all your salads and green leafy vegies, it simply helps the cells in our bodies to stay hydrated and we all want that now don't we!!

CHEERS

GOOD LUCK

Please tell me if I'm wrong about Micheal Jackson.....?

My friend and I had a stupid arguement over Micheal Jackson bleaching his skin. That's what I told her he did and she said NO, he has a skin disease ( a pigment discoloration of the skin). Um, who's right?

Please tell me if I'm wrong about Micheal Jackson.....?
I am sorry, but your friend is right.MJ has a skin disease called vitiligo. But I thing he is pushing it beyond reasonable extents by doing all thse facial changes. I am still a fan though.
Reply:You're both kind of right. He tried crack and had an allergic reaction that affected the pigment of his skin. And being young and vain he decided to start bleaching his skin so it wasn't as noticeable.

Now he's just crazy.
Reply:Skin disease.
Reply:he goes through 20 litres of industrial bleach a month!
Reply:Neither, it's all done with mirrors!
Reply:ur both right but Michael Jackson looks like a girl
Reply:His family has claimed that he has a skin disease...however, I have seen other African people's with this, and it makes their skin appear blochy with two differences in skin tones, not all at once seemingly like MJ.
Reply:michael jackson had plastic surgery few times which caused his skin to be discolored. plastic surgery too many times isn't good. it causes skin disease along with some more disorders. I would say that your friend is partially right.
Reply:That is one of lifes greatest mysteries. How does a black man from Gary, In. grow to be a white women?
Reply:He bleached his skin.
Reply:Supposedly he has vitiligo, which makes you lose pigment in places and you look spotty, my friend has it. And one of the only treatments they have for you is to give you pills that kill all your pigment so at least you match.

So you're both right.
Reply:As he did so much plastic surgery in order not to look like a black anymore it would surprise me if the change of his skin color was just a coincidence. But your friend probably just likes him very much and so doesn't want to admit it.
Reply:Is it someone wants to be right, or do you need someone like MJ to rip into?
Reply:I'm glad nobody picks my looks apart the way people do MJ and other celebrities.
Reply:he actually just rapes so many little children and is too busy to take showers often so the white is really just little boy semen.

Does anyone know whether they've found a cure yet for Vitiligo?

Vitiligo - discoloration of the skin Your skin turns white So you have two-toned skin...

Does anyone know whether they've found a cure yet for Vitiligo?
As regards Cure in vitiligo, Different people use the term »Cure« in different context. Some use this term for complete eradication of illness from the body, while others are concerned only with re-pigmentation of the existing spots.

If you mean complete eradication of the disease from you system, that is a tricky matter. Vitiligo results from a derangement of your normal defense mechanisms against infection. The body starts producing antibodies against pigment producing cells of its own skin. No definite causes are known, and so are the remedies. This is a generalized abnormality of your immune system, and there are currently no acceptable permanent means to halt this process.

The damage to pigment producing cells manifests as patches of skin, which have reduced, or no pigment. This is what bothers you, us and every one else.

You cannot cure or halt it, but you can manage the local manifestations (white patches) using topical or oral treatments.

If you disease is not widespread, and is limited you can go for a topical treatment. The one I used and found beneficial is the once form where I got this material.

Is Blood ever Blue?

I'm so confused! my anatomy teacher says blood is never blue, it becomes a dark red color when it becomes deoxygenated . The blue-green color we see through our veins are a poor reflection of light to make then appear to be blue for the outside of our skin. Okay understandable. But, when I read about Cyanosis which is a blue discoloration of the skin due to oxygen deprivation, it says that the blue hue of the skin comes Blue deoxygenated blood. This is confusing. Can anyone shed some light??? And if so, can you give me a web site?

Is Blood ever Blue?
It seems the old misconception that blood is blue when it is deoxygenated will never die.

Human blood is red, ranging from bright red when oxygenated to dark red when not. It owes its colour to hemoglobin, a metalloprotein compound containing iron in the form of heme, to which oxygen binds. There exists a popular misconception that deoxygenated blood is blue and that blood only becomes red when it comes into contact with oxygen. Blood is never blue, but veins appear blue because light is diffused by skin. Moreover, the blood inside is dark red and exhibits poor light reflection. From a physiological perspective, veins and arteries appear similar when skin is removed and are seen directly.

It is impossible to turn haemoglobin blue.
Reply:Im confused i was taught blood was blue in your body but as soon as oxygen hits the blood it turns red.... here is some more info i found:

In humans and other hemoglobin-using creatures, oxygenated blood is bright red. This is due to oxygenated iron-containing hemoglobin found in the red blood cells. Deoxygenated blood is a darker shade of red, which can be seen during blood donation and when venous blood samples are taken. However, due to skin pigments, blood vessel coverings and an optical effect caused by the way in which light penetrates through the skin, veins typically appear blue in color. This has led to a common misconception that venous blood is blue before it is exposed to air. Another reason for this misconception is that medical charts always show venous blood as blue in order to distinguish it from arterial blood which is depicted as red on the same chart. The rare condition sulfhemoglobinemia results in green blood.

The blood of horseshoe crabs is blue, which is a result of its high content in copper-based hemocyanin instead of the iron-based hemoglobin found, for example, in humans. Skinks in the genus Prasinohaema have green blood due to a buildup of the waste product biliverdin.

i found this on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood
Reply:yes,sometimes
Reply:my teacher informed me that blood was blue inside of the veins because it is full of carbon dioxide and has not been in contact with oxygen

interesting huh?
Reply:First up - all (human!) blood is red. Blood in arteries is bright red, since the haemoglobin molecules (which largely give the blood its colour) are mostly bound to oxygen. In veins, much of the oxygen has moved off into the tissues, and the deoxygenated haemoglobin molecules are consequently a darker red... but STILL red.

Then why do veins appear blue?

The first thing to understand about the physics is that blood usually absorbs almost all of the light that hits it - although it does reflect a little red light, which is obviously why blood appears red.

Secondly, different wavelengths of light have different likelihoods of be scattered. (In completely non-physicist's terms, light scattering occurs when a wavelength of light hits an atom, is absorbed by the atom, and then expelled again in a different direction. This isn't quite right, but it'll do as an explanation.) As it turns out, wavelengths towards the blue side of the spectrum are much more likely to be scattered than those near the red side.

Now, when the light passes through the skin, the blue light is therefore preferentially scattered. Some of it reaches your eye. The red light is less scattered (less reaches your eye), and most of it reaches the blood... where it is promptly absorbed. So virtually none of it reaches your eyes.

And thus, since basically only the blue light reaches your eyes, the vein appears blue. A similar thing happens in cyanosis - here the blood is more deoxygenated than usual, which would make it a darker red than normal. But, seen through the skin / nails / mucous membranes it looks a deep purple / blue colour.

A great website that explains the "blue blood" phenomenon in more detail is here: http://discovermagazine.com/1996/dec/the...

Hope that helps!

How can i persuade my doctor to prescribe me medicine?

I have some discoloration on the skin which bothers me greatly. Should i tell my doctor it has been there for a length of time (years/months) or a short period of time (weeks) bearing in mind i want it to be treated rather than dismissed as permanent scarring. Ideally id like to be referred to a dermatologist. Ive tried skin lightening products and they dont work. Thanks

How can i persuade my doctor to prescribe me medicine?
Some dermatologists you don't need to be referred to, if you can only find ones that you have to be referred to, then just ask to be referred to them...I don't see why they wouldn't do it.
Reply:Unless your insurance requires a referral from your primary care, check with your insurer for local dermatologists and make an appointment.
Reply:Try being honest with yourself and your doctor. "I've had this problem for ____ (length of time). I've tried ____ and ____ to help with the problem, but they really didn't seem to work. I was thinking maybe a dermatologist could help but I need a referral to see one. I really don't know what kind of medications or treatments are out there, but I was hoping that you could help me. What do you suggest?"

Or do your research before you go into the doctor's office. "Doc, I've had this problem for ____ (length of time). I've tried ____ and ____, but they really didn't seem to help. I was reading an article about ____ (medication/treatment), and I was wondering if it would be right for me because ... ____ (and go into detail based on your research). What do you think?"
Reply:Then request a referral if you need one or just call a dermatologist.
Reply:If you do not feel right about a doctor and how they want to treat you, go find a new doctor. Doctor's do not always know what is best for you.

Acne scar vs. Acne red mark that will fade?

I know the difference between a scar and just a mark on the skin (a scar is either an indentation in the skin or a raised mark in the skin and a mark is a discoloration where the skin remains level). My question is: does anyone have just a red MARK on their face left from a pimple? I don't have any scars, but I have a few marks that have been on my face for about 2 months. Will they fade? I have been putting Mederma on them.

Acne scar vs. Acne red mark that will fade?
These marks will fade after some months. They are called

PIH- Post Inflammatory hyperpigmentation

Our skin suffers may blemishes and injuries. Some of them are superficial. Acne in the first stage is one such. spots formed aftermosquito bite is another. there are many such blemishes that do not form a true scar but Post Inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Post Inflammatory hyperpigmentation is the darkended skin that is left on the skin after the blemish heals. This is only dark color caused by excess melanin on the spot and not a scar.

Post Inflammatory hyperpigmentation fades away over time. It needs no surgical or physical procedure to treat. If you want to treat this quickly use skin bleaches. Any good skin bleach will remove the excess color from the spot. more- http://www.doctorgoodskin.com/ds/acne/

Reply:Try cracking open a Viteman E capsule and putting on your face before going to bed....it worked for me.
Reply:My pimples leave just a mark when they go away. I have found that using skin brighteners helps them to fade. I have used Anew skin brighteners from Avon, which have worked very well. Currently I am trying out one from Dove. Also, I say my dermatologist who gave me some samples of epiquin, which is supposed to fade the marks.
Reply:I would love to send you a sample of Even Complection Essence by Mary Kay. It evens out your complection and gets rid of facial redness.

I have a brown spot popping up on both ankles What could this be?

I'm a 20 year old male caucasian in good physical condition.

I have have been developing a small discoloration of the skin on both interior sections on ankles (orangish-brownish speckled discoloration). The right one is a little larger than the left. There is no pain, itching, or change in sensation/touch. The area is also normal in texture.

I don't have any family history of skin cancer or any other known cancer. Also, that area of my skin is never exposed to any form of ultraviolet light (that includes the sun).

I was wondering if it could be some sort internal bodily disorder/disease or an actual skin disorder.

If you need any more additional details, please email me.

The only form of medication I take is an over the counter sleep aid: "Simply Sleep/diphenhydramine."

I have a brown spot popping up on both ankles What could this be?
it sounds like simply dry skin, it's common around the elbows and ankles, try a loufa when bathing and lotion afterwards

How do I get rid of or lighten darkened underarm area?

I am 27. I shaved my pits when I was in high school but stopped my junior year. From then on I've tweezed my pits and now not so much grows back. But in the recent years I've noticed that the area is darker. I have light skin and the discoloration under my arms is very noticable. I've never used depilitory or wax in the area.

How do I get rid of or lighten darkened underarm area?
Discolouration comes most often from heredity - if your mother had darker skin there, chances are you will, as well.

The second most common reason for darkening there is friction. Chances are the anti-perspirant you use is chalky and not moisturising. That often makes the skin cells overproduce and become thicker and darker. Try using a very creamy AP/Deodorant like Dove and apply a moisturiser that contains AHAs or Glycolic acids every night. before bed. That should lighten a bit. I like some of the creams that contain alpha-Arbutin from a Japanese line of products called DHC. The website is www.dhccare.com

If there's still a problem, seek out options at local spas or at a dermatologist. There are SO many ways of professionally lightening skin right now that I'm sure you'll find one that's effective for you!
