Is this athlete's foot or some other infection?

The skin near the toes and sole of the foot seem tender with a localized, whitish discoloration as if some fluid is building under the skin, socks leave a smelly, yellowish residue near the toe area if they were worn for a long amount of time

Is this athlete's foot or some other infection?
Definitely athlete's foot or some other fungus. It's very common if you wear shoes most of the time, are in humid conditions, don't change your socks every day or if you exercise a lot. The fungus can also be picked up on gym shower floors, which is why shower shoes are always a good idea.

To cure this, you can get some spray Lotramin which you can spray into your shoes every day or two to kill the fungus. Wash your socks with hot water and detergent and change them frequently. You will also need to apply medication directly to your feet once or twice a day until it is completely gone. Usually a cream with 1% Econazole Nitrate works well.

If untreated, athlete's foot can become serious. The skin can crack and bleed, becoming very painful and you can even develop infections.

Let your feet air out as much as possible, buy some sandals or other open shoes for leisure time. You'll be fine...
Reply:fungul infection.
Reply:sounds like a fungal infection. You should go see a doctor before it gets any worse, or spreads.
Reply:Yes, sounds like it. Get an anti-fungal cream for it, and go see your dr!
Reply:DOES IT ITCH? If Yes...then its athletes foot or some fungal infection...you should keep your feet dry at all times. There are anti fungal foot powder available in the drugstores...there are also ointments and creams (Lamisil is one of them) that you could apply to the insides of your toes and leave them there overnight. Avoid using damp socks...use only a pair of thoroughly DRY socks and shoes. That's the only way to make it go away. You may want to see a doctor for a prescription medicine to be taken internally to help you heal faster (Nizoral tab is one of them). Take proper care of yourself.
