Why can't I get rid of my razor bumps? What am I doing wrong?

I need help on clearing my face of razor bumps and skin rashes and discoloration from shaving. I don't know why, but stuff like aftershave (I'm using Old Spice and Nivea Sensitive Balm), witch hazel, those things never seem to work and they never seem to stop the razor bumps and the skin discoloration whenever I shave. I've tried some other creams and bump-stopper chemicals, but they never seem to do the job for me. What should I be using? Am I shaving wrong? Am I using the wrong razor? Why can't my skin stay clean and clear of these ugly bumps?

Why can't I get rid of my razor bumps? What am I doing wrong?
Ok, i have the answer to your question because my boyfriend has the same issue(or should i say "had"):)

use "Aveeno" shaving cream.it is inexpensive and you can find it at any drugstore and it works!!!Look for the one specifically designed for sensitive skin/razor bumps....every guy i have recommended it to loves it:)
Reply:Mine is like that too.

I use an electric shaver. It doens't cut that close to the skin like a razor does so it doesn't irritate and I've been fine.

Reply:First you should try seeing a dermatologist. If you can't afford one then try always changing your blade. Never use the same blade more then once. Also try buying something that says for sensitive skin. Look for anything in the store that talks about your problem.
Reply:this may sound odd...but you can use milk on your face to help soothe the skin after shaving. It is an old trick that I learned in beauty school for after a woman waxes her face if you don't have any lotion you can use milk!
Reply:Have you considered using an electric razor? It does take a while for the skin to adjust to one but once it adjusts, you'll get a nice smooth shave every time without ending up with those razor bumps every time. There's a pre shave that you should use before using an electric razor. I bought my son a Braun electric razor two years ago for Christmas %26amp; he says it's he best shave he's ever had. You can get a good price on one at Wal*Mart. Check it out.
Reply:have you seen a dermatologist? your hair grows "curly" out of your hair follicle %26amp; curls back on itself to cause a bump (pseudofolliculitis barbae) is what it is called i think. do not use witch hazel or fragrance as these could irritate it. i would try shaving with a 2% benzoyl peroxide wash (ask your pharmacist for a low strength BPO.) this chemical sterilizes the follicle to kill bacteria that could cause an infection (looks like a rash probably.) BPO's fade everything so use white towels when you shave.

good luck!
