Ever since I can remember, my dog has always had these dark splotchy spots on his skin. His body is mostly pink, though around one of his thighs and what we would call the armpits, there are dark brown splotchy spots. Also, his butt is also dark colored and part of his penis. They are not raised, nor inflamed, and he doesn't seem to be bothered because they do not itch. He's had these discolorations for as long as i can remember. I just noticed them before and thought they were normal. Until today I saw a small red spot. It looked like blood but it wasn't. It's like he bled under the skin, and the spot is a little larger than a dime. Is this the start of a serious rash? Should I take him to see the vet? Diagnosis anyone?
Should I see the vet?
What is this?
I have a white bichon-poo and he has unusual spotting on his skin. Help?
The dark spots are just pigment, most dogs have pigmented skin and the poodle in him is what gives him that pigment. The blood spot is probably just where he scratched or something, it's like a blood blister under the skin. I got scratched a couple of weeks ago by one of my dogs and had a spot similar to that. I would watch it to see if he's itching in that area particularly. If not, I wouldnt worry about it unless it gets bigger. If it bothers you take him to the vet but otherwise I wouldnt worry about it too much i dobut it's anything serious. Just keep an eye on it and he should be fine.
Reply:Even white dogs don't have all white skin. They tend to have spots (usually darker) on their body, you can usually see this pretty well when you bathe the dog.
Now the small red spot on the other hand is different. It may be a bug bite, maybe from an ant, or maybe he got scratched or poked with something on accident.
Keep an eye on it, you may need to take him to the vet in a couple of days if it doesn't go away.
